Standard logo design file formats

There are many graphic file types (file extensions) that are used by modern day computers. Your logo will be supplied in the following Standard File Formats. The Standard Design File Types that are supplied with your logo should cover 99.9% of your graphic requirements. If you have a need for another file type than that listed, please just ask. The preferred design tools that are used for your custom logo design are AdobeÒ IllustratorÒ software for the vector designs and AdobeÒ PhotoshopÒ software for raster designs.

TIF Also called TIFF (Tagged Image Format File) file is supplied in a 300 dpi (dots per inch) high resolution. A TIFF file is commonly used for printing on lithograph press. TIFF files are a CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black) file for the four colors that are used in the printing process. This is one of the formats that printers use. NOTE: If you open this file on your computer often the colors will not be the same as the in the other logo files that are sent to you. This is normal.
Used for:
Professional printing
Home/Office printing that support CMYK color.

JPG Also called JPEG (Joint Photographic Exerts Group) file are a RGB (Red, Green and Blue) file. RGB is what your color monitor and color printer uses. These files are sent to you in three sizes. Normal, Medium and Small. These files are supplied in a 300 dpi resolution. JPEG files are used in numerous programs such as some word processors, presentation, website (html) editors and more. The sizes supplied are sufficient for most of the applications that you would do personally.
Used for:
Website design
Home/Office Printing
Importing into Word processor, Presentation programs, Spreadsheets, Databases, etc.

JPG (grayscale) This 300 dpi file format is supplied so you may apply for a trademark. Most trademark agencies only accept images that are in grayscale.
Used for:
Trademark application
Website design
Home/Office printing
Importing into Word processor, Presentation programs, Spreadsheets, Databases, etc.

PSD (Adobe® PhotoShop® Document) file. This file is supplied in a 300 dpi RGB format. This format is preferred by many professional designers. This file format will be supplied to you with a transparent background also, so it may be used for your website design. This is NOT your editable logo file.
Used for:
Home/Office printing with the correct software.

EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) file. The EPS file is your fully editable file. This is the master file that from which all the other files are created. In order to edit this file, a special software, AdobeÒ IllustratorÒ software, is required. The fonts are flattened in the EPS format. This is done because if the fonts were not flattened, you would have to buy the license and a copy of the font. Of course, you are welcome to do that if you wish. There are many good font sites on the Internet.

The EPS file is a VECTOR file. The other files that are supplied to you are RASTER files. Raster files are made with many tiny dots. Remember dpi is dots per inch. Raster images loose quality when enlarged or reduced significantly. Look at a newspaper photograph under a magnifying glass and you will see the dots. VECTOR files however, do not loose quality when enlarged or reduced significantly. This is because that when a software changes the size of the image it uses a mathematical technique called vectoring.
Used for:
Editing (with the correct software)
Enlarging or Reducing without loosing quality (using the correct software.)

Optional Transparent Formats

The following formats are also available upon request.

GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) file. GIF files are RGB files. They do not do well when resized. If you would like us to supply a transparent GIF file, you will have to tell us what size you need. Should you want your logo in a GIF file enter that information, along with the size you need on the order form in the "other information" area. Remember to include the size you need.

PNG (Portable Network Graphics) file. These files are also RGB files. A relatively new format, PNG files are a website format that is supported by most web browser. PNG files resize much better than GIF files. A good feature with this format is that the image is of high quality. If you would like your logo in a PNG format request it on the order form in the "other information" area.
